Barcelona deny reports they have already paid Griezmann’s release clause- SPORT

Griezmann & Atletico

The Antoine Griezmann transfer saga feels like it has been going on for an age.

Back on May 14th, Griezmann released a video announcing he would be leaving Atletico Madrid this summer.

Atletico’s president then claimed in June that he knew Griezmann would be moving to Barcelona this summer:

“I am very certain where Antoine will play, we have known since March.

“It is in Barcelona.” As quoted by Goal.

Despite all of this, Griezmann is still currently an Atletico Madrid player.

In total, Griezmann has featured in 257 games across all competitions for Atletico, in which he has scored 133 and assisted 50.

The Frenchman has also helped Atletico win the Europe League, Spanish Super Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

Barca deny paying release clause

Now, on Thursday, French outlet L’Equipe have published a report claiming that Barcelona have paid Griezmann’s release clause.

L’Equipe put the forward’s clause at €120m.

However, Spanish outlet SPORT have since reported that this is not the case.

According to SPORT, sources close to Barcelona have denied the story published by L’Equipe.

Barcelona are still said to be working on the deal for Griezmann, which they hope to announce soon, as per SPORT.

Mundo Deportivo also backed SPORT’s claim that Barca have yet to pay the release clause.
