Maguire signs for Man United
Harry Maguire spent the past two seasons honing his craft for Leicester City.
Maguire has also been an integral member of Gareth Southgate’s England side that reached the 2018 World Cup semi-final.
After a dismal 2018/19 that saw Manchester United leak 54 goals in 38 league games, the Red Devils decided to invest in their backline.
As well as signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace, United landed Harry Maguire.
Evans on Maguire & VVD
Man United are believed to have paid £80m for the central defender, a world-record fee for a centre-back.
Maguire would overtake Virgil van Dijk as the world’s most expensive centre-back with Liverpool previously paying £75m for the Dutchman.
As such Maguire is being compared with VVD and the impact he had on Liverpool’s defence.
One person comparing the duo is Maguire’s former teammate, Jonny Evans.
As well as speaking about Maguire and van Dijk, Evans stated that Maguire is tailor-made for Manchester United:
“Both [Maguire and van Dijk] are great on the ball, and Harry has got explosive pace people don’t see. He is powerful and good in the air.
“Everyone will compare the transfer fees but it’s so difficult to judge transfer fees nowadays. We are all human and it is weird we get traded for money.
“In the transfer market it’s all supply and demand and things can go up and down at any moment. The most important thing is for him to be judged on how he plays.
“I don’t have any worries about him there. He is tailor-made for Manchester United, it was a great move for him.
“He’s a player they needed. He’s got a really likeable nature about him. He will be a real hit there, he is a fantastic player.” As quoted by Sky Sports News.
Maguire made his PL debut for United on Sunday as they beat Chelsea 4-0.
