David Ornstein on chances of Man United signing Leicester’s James Maddison

Reliable journalist David Ornstein has today provided an insight into Manchester United’s proposed move for Leicester City star James Maddison.

Foxes stint

Maddison, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder, only made the move to the King Power Stadium last summer, on the back of a stellar campaign in the Championship with Norwich City.

And, despite his lack of Premier League experience, the Coventry youth product subsequently went on to take to the rigours of top-flight football like a duck to water.

Maddison played a crucial role in Leicester’s top-half finish, starting in all but 3 of the Foxes’ Premier League outings.

He also racked up a none-too-shabby 7 goals and 7 assists in the league alone, with the midfielder’s wicked set-piece delivery and free-kick prowess having lit up the King Power throughout the campaign.

Perfectly showcasing just how impressive a creative outlet Maddison proved over the course of the season was the following statistic:

United links

Maddison’s creative streak, meanwhile, has since carried into the beginning of the new season, with 3 goals and 2 assists in his first 9 appearances.

And it is this consistent excellence which has inevitably led to links between the midfielder and some of England’s top clubs.

The outfit most persistently-named as keen suitors of Maddison over the summer were Manchester United.

‘Move to Old Trafford within the next year’

And recent reports have since suggested that the Red Devils’ creative struggles to this point in the campaign could see them renew their interest in the Leicester standout following the turn of the year.

As such, writing in his column for the Athletic today, David Ornstein provided an insight into United’s interest in Maddison.

And the ‘Ornacle’, as he has been dubbed by Arsenal’s fans, revealed some intriguing inside information regarding the situation.

It is suggested that sources close to all of United, Leicester and Maddison himself feel as though a transfer to Old Trafford will come to fruition within the next year:

‘Some I have spoken to with links to all three parties feel the 22-year-old will move to Old Trafford within the next year.’

Ornstein continued:

‘Others suggest it is more likely he signs a new contract to improve his terms and protect his value to Leicester before leaving during the course of that deal.’
