Diego Simeone & Atletico Madrid set for ‘divorce’ – Marca

Premier League jobs aplenty…

Diego Simeone could soon be sacked by Atletico Madrid, with reports claiming a ‘divorce is on the horizon’ following a poor start to the season.

Simeone is one of the most well-known managers in European football, mostly due to his charismatic actions on the touchline.

Though, it isn’t just his passion that has won him praise around the footballing world.

He’s been responsible for Atletico Madrid’s achievements in recent years.

Simeone won La Liga in 2011 against all the odds, and also has two Europa League trophies to his name.

Atletico have also reached the Champions League final twice under his tutelage, back in the 2013/14 & 2015/16 seasons.

However, Simeone could now be set for the sack after a disappointing season so far.

Potential option for Arsenal?

According to Marca, as cited by the Mirror, a ‘divorce is on the horizon’ for Simeone and Atletico.

Their report suggests some board members ‘are disappointed with Simeone and the current state of affairs’.

Unfortunately, there are no further details relating to Simeone’s potential sacking.

This comes as Atletico Madrid sit sixth in the La Liga table, six points behind joint-leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid.

They could also still go out of the Champions League after the group stage.

Atleti are sat on seven points going into their final game against Lokomotiv Moscow.

Bayer Leverkusen sit just one point behind them, while Juventus are six points clear of the Spaniards.

The timing of this sacking could actually favour Premier League side Arsenal.

Unai Emery was sacked last week following a poor start to the season, with Freddie Ljungberg now interim boss.

However, if Simeone was sacked, he could be the perfect man for Arsenal.
