Lucas: Tottenham can compete with likes of Liverpool & Man City under Mourinho

Jose Mourinho took over from Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs last month.

The Argentine played a huge role in Spurs’ transformation into a top-four club and also took the Lilywhites to their first-ever Champions League final earlier this year.

However, after a string of poor results at the start of the current campaign Pochettino was relieved of his duties.

While Pochettino’s time in North London should largely be judged as a success, he did not win any silverware with Spurs.

Now though, under Mourinho, Lucas Moura believes that Spurs will be able to challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for titles.

When asked whether Mourinho’s arrival means Tottenham will soon compete with the likes of Liverpool and City for titles, the Brazilian stated:

“I really believe that, very much.

“We need to continue the work that has been done over the past five years, and now with the special touch of a coach who knows the way of titles like no one else. It has everything to happen.

“Mourinho is undoubtedly one of the most iconic coaches with whom I have worked given all he has achieved and for his history. He is among the best coaches in the world. It is a great pleasure to work with him.

“We have the structure, squad, great players and a great coach. To crown it all with a title, we simply need to believe and know that we also have the same ability as they (Manchester City and Liverpool) have. You need to add this winning mindset.” As quoted by Goal.

Man United vs Tottenham

Mourinho has won his first three games as Tottenham boss with his latest test coming later this evening.

Mourinho will take his Tottenham side to his former club Manchester United on Wednesday.

Spurs began the day 6th in the English top-flight but they can move back up to 5th with a win or draw vs United.

As for Man United, they are currently 10th but can leapfrog Spurs with a victory at Old Trafford.
