Paul Pogba suffers immediate injury following Juventus return

New Juventus signing Paul Pogba has suffered a torn meniscus muscle during pre-season training for the Turin side, which is set to see him spend a period on the sidelines ahead of the new season.

Pogba made the decision to return to the Turin side on a free transfer following a tough time in Manchester, opting to run down his contract in the north-west, but will now be forced to wait a little longer for his much-anticipated second debut for Max Allegri’s side.

The Old Lady kick off their Serie A campaign on Monday 15th August with a clash with Sassuolo, but the 29-year-old Frenchman is certain to miss the game following this setback.

“Following the pain reported in his right knee, Paul Pogba was subjected to radiological investigations which revealed a lesion of the lateral meniscus,” the club announced on their official website.

“In the next few hours he will undergo a specialist orthopaedic consultation. Therefore, he will not take part in the trip to Dallas to continue treatment.”

It is unclear just how long the Frenchman will be sidelined for with this issue.

Juve keen to clear decks

Juventus are desperate to offload some midfielders this summer, but that may now be checked somewhat as they wait on a final diagnosis of the extent of Pogba’s injury.

Arthur Melo, often linked with Arsenal, is now in talks with Valencia, while the club continue to look for ways to terminate Aaron Ramsey’s contract early after an unsuccessful spell in Turin.

Meanwhile, Adrien Rabiot is another that is thought to be free to depart, though interested parties are yet to be identified.
