Bayern Munich announce fifth addition of the summer as young forward joins

Bayern Munich have announced their fifth signing of the summer, with talented striker Mathys Tel joining the club from Rennes on a long term deal.

Tel, still only 17 years old, became the youngest player in Rennes’ history when he made his debut last season, racking up 79 minutes of action across 10 appearances for the French side, and is considered one of the brightest prospects in world football.

It is for this reason that the German Champions have decided to splash out an impressive 20m euros on the talent, with a further 8.5m in performance based add-ons.

Should these be reached, it would make the Frenchman the most expensive 17 year old in history, eclipsing the 26.5m euros that Borussia Dortmund shelled out for Jude Bellingham in 2020.

“FC Bayern are one of the best teams in the world. I’m very much looking forward to this great challenge and I will give my all for this club. I’ve been very impressed with the discussions with Hasan Salihamidzic and the FC Bayern management, and I quickly realised I definitely wanted to come to Munich”, the youngster told Bayern’s official site.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic added that “Mathys Tel is one of the biggest talents in Europe, a very quick, technically strong and versatile striker. He won the European Championships with the France U17s this year as captain of the team. We’ve been watching him for a long time and we were able to convince him to take his next important steps in Munich with us now.

“We are proud of that, as there were a lot of clubs who wanted to sign him. The development of such an exceptional young player is an exciting project for us all. Of course, Mathys needs time, he needs minutes on the pitch and rhythm. We are all convinced he has a great career in front of him and that he will help our team.”

Tel becomes addition no.5

Tel becomes the German side’s fifth addition of the summer, having already added Sadio Mane to their forward line as they look to continue to thrive even after the departure of star man Robert Lewandowski, who has joined Barcelona.

Further back, they have added central midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and right back Nasser Mazrouai, both from Ajax, while Matthijs De Ligt has also joined the club from Juventus to strengthen the heart of their defence.
